More about the Sivananda Yoga classes

The Sivananda Yoga classes include:

In the Beginners class, the asanas are introduced gradually, building up slowly and gently week by week. The Intermediate class assumes that you have been through this process, but continues to refine some of the asanas and adds one or two more.

Class leader Abi says:

"Sivananda Yoga integrates a system of postures (asanas) and breathing exercises to strengthen, tone and de-toxify the body."

"It is believed to be the original, traditional form of Hatha Yoga practised for over five thousand years. Students who practise this form of yoga not only build strength and flexibility, but find themselves revitalised and re-energised. Yet they also leave the practice feeling calm and relaxed."

"You will most likely find that Sivananda Yoga has a considerable de-stressing effect on your life, and that it is a powerful way to re-connect with yourself and detatch from your hectic lifestyle. It enables you to spend some precious and beneficial time on yourself, to recharge your batteries and be better able to deal with your day to day life."

Caution!

If you are unfamiliar with any of these poses, only attempt them under the supervision of a qualified Yoga teacher. For each pose, there are precautions and prohibitions that apply. In her class, Abi will carefully assess every individual before suggesting that they attempt a pose, and offer alternatives when a pose is unsuitable or too difficult.
